The Department of Geology at the Faculty of Geo- and Atmospheric Sciences at the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck seeks to fill a
Tenure-Track Position in Tectonics
at the earliest convenience.
Responsibilities
The position holder will conduct independent research and teaching in the field of “Tectonics”, with a focus on “Tectonics of orogenic belts”, esp. in the area of combined field-related research and investigation of endogenic orogenic processes on geological timescales. The regional geological focus of the future position holder does not exclusively have to be in the Alps, however, it is expected that the successful candidate will also develop a regional focus on the Alps and its geodynamics.
Close cooperation with the other research groups of the Departments of Geology, and Mineralogy & Petrography, especially within the Research Centre Geogene Dynamics – Geomaterials, is expected, as well as an active participation in the faculty-spanning Research Area “Mountain Regions”.
Teaching comprises the (co-)supervision of courses in all curricula of Earth Sciences at the Faculty of Earth- and Atmospheric Sciences (Bachelor, Master, PhD) as well as the supervision of students including (co-)supervision of Bachelor-, Master-, and (after successful habilitation or equivalent qualification) PhD theses.
The future post holder will train and participate in areas of academic self-administration. Also desired is a dedication to science communication.

Format of the Position
At the University of Innsbruck, a ‘tenure-track position’ enables the pursuit of a career up to tenured full professor.
The successful applicant will enter a six-year work contract on the basis of the ‘Angestelltengesetz’ (Employees Act; extent of employment: 100%) and at the same time conclude a ‘Qualification Agreement’ according to § 27 of the ‘Kollektivvertrag’ (Austrian Collective Labor Agreement for university personnel); (s)he will start her/his occupation at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Once the targets of the ‘Qualification Agreement’ are reached, the position will be tenured, thus promoting the holder of the position to Associate Professor.
Subsequently, a full professor position according to § 99 (4) of the ‘Universitätsgesetz’ (Austrian University Act) will be opened, for which the Associate Professor is eligible to apply.
